Birth of the Ocean Harvest Expedition

Getting on more than a few years back, I was running my charter sailing company in the Barkley Sound and doing primarily day trips and sunset cruises. Whilst slowly losing my mind and passion for sailing by repeating a small itinerary. Constantly fighting the clock to try to fit in all the area had to offer in 6 hours on a sail boat I knew something needed to change.

During my down time (pre and post tourist season) I would constantly be loading the boat up with the fishing, crabbing and prawning gears, along with some nice wine and a few beers and head out for a few days with friends. We would scour the beaches for oysters and clams, set prawn and crab traps and fish salmon in the early morning. Relax on the beach at night beside a fire. Most important though we would eat ton of fresh seafood.

The reaction from my friends and family was telling me that maybe I was on to something here. People want fresh seafood, they enjoy catching it themselves and they want to see how it is prepared. The ocean harvest trip changed the way I ran my charter sailing business. It was unique and very challenging, but at the end of the day I get show people the Barkley Sound they way I would show it to my friends and family.

In 2014 Canadian Yachting featured the Ocean Harvest trip as ” A foodies dream come true” check out their 4 page article.
